Ros Sereysothea, born around 1948 in Battambang Province, is remembered as one of the greatest female voices of Cambodian music and is often called the "Queen with the Golden Voice". She grew up in a farming family, sang along to the radio and to wedding singers, and won a regional singing contest in 1963 before being invited to sing on National Radio in Phnom Penh in 1964.
During the 1960s and 1970s she recorded a very large number of songs (sources report more than 500), from traditional ballads to psychedelic rock, and often sang with Sinn Sisamouth. She sometimes gave Western rock songs new Khmer lyrics. She was honoured by King Norodom Sihanouk with a royal title, and she also acted in films.
She disappeared during the Khmer Rouge period, and her fate remains uncertain. Her recordings are still loved today.
